Our Approach & Policies

At By Peaceful Waters we believe that every person is valuable and created to live a life of inner wholeness and peace. Our compassionate therapists skillfully hold the space for you to share your story so that you can process, heal and live your best life!

A Whole-Person Approach

When you come to By Peaceful Waters, we take a holistic approach that sees you as a whole person – your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual self.

We recognize the impact that one area of life has on the others, and we can provide services for your whole person, such as: Counselling and Therapy, Spiritual Direction, Nutritional Counselling, and Mediation.

Your life stage and goals are important to us. As the client, you set the pace you want to go in therapy and determine what topics or issues you want to discuss.

Faith & Therapy

By Peaceful Waters is home to qualified therapists who combine their Christian faith with their professional training. As Christians, we have accepted the invitation to live in relationship with our Creator – fully loved and fully known by Him. In response, we welcome His wisdom to guide our lives through scripture and prayer.

Through ongoing study and professional development, we dig into research on the brain, relationships and human nature that is so often confirmed by the timeless wisdom of scripture. In this way we glean from the rich study of psychology while recognizing that all true wisdom and knowledge come from God.

The hope and peace that we experience as believers is grounded in our relationship with the Lord. It is the outflow of His love that is foundational to our practice, even as we serve many people from different cultural and religious backgrounds.

We make room for our clients to integrate their faith and spiritual beliefs within the therapy experience, offering healing and peace at the deepest levels.

Our approach is to support a person’s spiritual journey. This is why the inclusion of prayer and scripture can be initiated by our clients and they set the pace and tempo for their own healing.

The Therapeutic Relationship

No matter what brings you to therapy, the foundation of healing and growth is relationship.

Most people have experienced at least some hurt within the context of relationship. That is why a trusting and open relationship with your therapist is so important to the healing process.

As therapists, we listen to your stories and life experiences and how they have shaped you. Much of the learning you will do in therapy is to see ‘the story behind the story’. This means that you discover meaning, purpose and healing in your past experiences, which propels you forward in the goals you have for your life right now and in the future.

Your mental health is not a permanent state. You can grow and heal. You don’t just have to settle for ‘coping’ with your life. Instead, you can live the life of joy and purpose that you have been seeking.
